If you are a fit parent (not abusive, not neglectful, not suffering from any disability that renders you unable to provide the care and support the child needs, and can prove a history of being a good parent thus far in the child’s life), then if you only knew the father for a few months before getting pregnant, if he was not involved in preparing for the child’s birth (*i.e.*, he did not help pay for the costs associated with the pregnancy and birth, did not provide you with any other help you may have needed while pregnant), he was not involved in the child’s life after the child was born, and only became involved in the child’s life after he was ordered to pay child support, AND he has no legitimate excuse for being, as you put it, “MIA,” his odds of obtaining an equal child custody (50/50) award are, generally speaking, slim.
